MLB
The Tigers open the regular season against the Dodgers in Los Angeles tonight. Tarik Skubal will start against Blake Snell. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Detroit’s opening-day roster includes some surprises. Relievers Jason Foley and Andrew Chafin will both begin the season at Toledo. Foley led the team in saves last year. Righty Brenan Hanifee and lefty Brant Hurter will fill the final two bullpen spots. Justyn-Henry Malloy and Jahmai Jones were also assigned to the Mud Hens, meaning Ryan Kreidler makes the cut, and should see much of the playing time in center field, until Parker Meadows, Matt Vierling and Wenceel Pérez recover from their injuries.
The Tigers added more outfield depth yesterday by signing veteran Ben Gamel, who had been in the Astros camp.
The Brewers begin their regular season today against the Yankees in New York. Freddy Peralta will pitch against Carlos Rodón.
Milwaukee assigned starter Jose Quintana to Nashville to start the season. He had a shortened spring training, and still needs some ramp-up conditioning. Because of off-days, the Crew will open with a three-man rotation of Peralta, Nestor Cortes and Aaron Civaler. Jake Bauers made the major league roster. He struggled for Milwaukee last season, but turned in a productive spring. The Brewers rounded out their bullpen by adding Chad Patrick, who won the Class AAA triple crown with the Sounds last season.
