Christmas arrives late in the copper country. Yesterday morning high school seniors helped local law enforcement load a U-haul truck from Atlantic Mine with extra toys from the recent Toys for Tots program in 2024. City of Houghton Police Pepartment Lieutenant Nick Roberts says days that get officers connecting with the community offers some the most fun a police officer can have while on the job.
This is the fun part of the job. We get to go meet the community and deliver toys, making the kids’ day. Late into winter, we’re all trying to get out of that funk. So maybe some nice, cool toys for everybody will help us out a little bit. – Lt. Nick Roberts, City of Houghton Police Department
U-haul of Atlantic Mine donated the delivery truck to the law enforcement community for today’s drop-offs. The local police stations traveled to schools in the Copper Country Intermediate School District to deliver some late-season joy to the Copper Country’s kids. Toys for Tots was created in 1947.
