High School
The Lake Linden-Hubbell softball season ended Saturday with a 2-0 loss to the Gogebic Miners in a regional final. Emily Jokela gave up just three hits, and struck out 17, but the Miners scratched out a run in the first inning on a walk, a passed ball and a single by Kinley Anderson. They added another in the third inning, when Emily DelFavero reached first base on a dropped third strike, advanced to second on a passed ball, stole third, and scored on another passed ball. The Lakes loaded the bases in the fifth inning, but couldn’t score. Payton Goldsworthy had two of Lake Linden’s five hits.
The Lakes had advanced to the title game with a 15-4 victory over Superior Central.
MLB
The Tigers dropped a 6-1 decision to the Cubs Saturday. Tyler Holton opened for Detroit, gave up a run in the first inning, and took the loss. Keider Montero relieved him in the second, pitched through the seventh, and allowed four runs on five hits.
Detroit concludes that home set against the Cubs this afternoon. Jack Flaherty will start against Cade Horton. Coverage will begin at 1:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
Caleb Durbin’s solo home run in the bottom of the ninth gave the Brewers a 4-3 victory over the Padres. San Diego had tied the game with two in the top of the ninth off Trevor Megill. Jose Quintana gave up a run over five innings.
The Brewers host the Padres again this afternoon. Freddy Peralta will pitch against Ryan Bergert.
NHL
The Panthers and Oilers will resume the Stanley Cup Championship Series tomorrow night in Florida. The series is tied 1-1.
NBA
Game two of the NBA Championship Series will be played tonight in Oklahoma City. The Pacers lead the Thunder 1-0.
