UPDATE: The Michigan State Police Negaunee Post has identified the individuals responsible for the alleged threats made against the Marquette Culver’s yesterday. Four juveniles are accused of calling and making vague threats to shoot the restaurant. The threats were directed specifically at the Marquette Culver’s location and not at any specific individuals. The preliminary investigation indicates that the incident was reportedly an attempt at a prank call, with no intention to cause any physical harm. The investigation remains on-going and will be forwarded to the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office for their review.
The Culver’s restaurant in Marquette was abruptly closed yesterday after allegedly being targeted by some threats.
State police troopers were called in, and have begun an investigation. They tell us that, at this point, the threats appear to have been directed toward the restaurant itself, and not toward any specific individuals.
They also emphasize that they know of no danger to the public.
Officials have not revealed the nature of the threats involved, how they were communicated, or who may have been responsible. An investigation continues.
The Marquette Culver’s plans to reopen for business as usual today.
The threat does not appear to have involved any other Culver’s locations. The chain has restaurants here in Houghton, as well as Iron Mountain and Escanaba.
