High School
Lake Linden-Hubbell and Hancock dominate this year’s All-District 98 softball team.
Curt Kinnunen of the Lakes was named Coach of the Year.
Players selected include Ashlyn Steves, Payton Goldsworthy, Alli Corrigan, Cleo Milkey, Emily Jokela and Kyara Mills from Lake Linden; and Sofie Freeman, Vaeda Brooks, Romey Koskela, Brooke Koskela, Sadie Biekkola, Lucy Biekkola, Emily L’Esperance and Alice Larson from Hancock.
The third team in the district, L’Anse, did not place any players on the team.
Twilight League
In Copper Country Twilight League baseball tonight…
- REL Technologies faces Coldwell Banker Craig Heinonen at the Driving Park.

College Hockey
Details have been firmed up for this year’s Great Lakes Invitational hockey tournament.
The GLI will again be held at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids. Michigan Tech and Miami of Ohio will meet in the first semifinal December 28th at 3:30. Michigan State and Ferris State will play in the second semifinal at 7. The consolation game will be played December 29th at 3:30, with the title game that evening at 7.
Tickets will go on sale in September through the Van Andel Arena website.
MLB
The Tigers had yesterday off, and open a series in Baltimore tonight. Sawyer Gipson-Long will start against Cade Povich. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers’ bats remained quiet last night in a 7-1 loss to the Braves. Milwaukee collected just five hits off Chris Sale, who struck out 11 over seven innings. Aaron Civale opened with four shutout innings for the Brewers, but left as Atlanta plated three runs in the fifth, and took the loss.
The Brewers host the Braves again tonight. Quinn Priester will pitch against Grant Holmes.
NHL
The Panthers blasted the Oilers 6-1 last evening. Florida leads the Stanley Cup Championship Series 2-1, and will host game four Thursday.
NBA
The Pacers host the Thunder tomorrow night. The NBA Championship Series is tied 1-1.

Running
Online registration for Friday’s Thatcher Markham Memorial 5k Run and Walk closes tonight. The run will kick off the Bridgefest Parade Friday at 7:00 at the west edge of downtown Hancock, and proceed across the bridge to Houghton. Late registration sessions will be held Thursday from 5 until 8 at the Queen City Running Company in Houghton, and Friday from 4 until 6 near the race start. Bridgefest
