MLB
The Tigers limped into the All-Star break with an 8-4 loss to the Mariners yesterday. Detroit took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the seventh, with help from a Riley Greene home run. Seattle tied the game in the top of the eighth, then plated four runs off Tommy Kahnle and Brant Hurter in the ninth.
In the three-game weekend series, Seattle scored 35 runs.
The Tigers will return to the field Friday evening, when they visit the Rangers.
The Brewers blasted the Nationals 8-1 yesterday. Freddy Peralta pitched six shutout innings, then left as Washington scored their only run in the seventh. Jackson Chourio and Brice Turang homered.
Milwaukee’s season will resume Friday against the Dodgers in Los Angeles.
Sal Frelick left yesterday’s game after injuring a hamstring while making a diving catch. He’ll be examined today.
In the opening round of the Major League Baseball Draft yesterday, the Tigers used the 24th overall pick to take high school shortstop Jordan Yost, from Sickles, Florida, who struck out only once in his senior season. They took high school catcher Michael Oliveto with the 34th pick, and University of Oklahoma pitcher Malachi Witherspoon with the 62nd pick. With the 98th pick, they selected Arizona State pitcher Ben Jacobs.
The Brewers used the 20th pick to get hard-hitting University of Tennessee third baseman Andrew Fischer. They followed by selecting high school shortstop Brady Ebel, Vanderbilt pitcher J.D. Thompson, high school pitcher Frank Cairone, and Coastal Carolina hurler Jacob Morrison.
Rounds four through 20 of the Draft will be held today.
All-Star Week activities continue with the Home Run Derby tonight. The All-Star game is tomorrow.
Frisbee
The local Shottle Bop team claimed the Nachazel Cup at the 67th annual International Frisbee Tournament yesterday. Shottle Bop defeated UP Hardwoods in the semifinals, and dispatched Whiskey Disc in the championship match. Whiskey Disc eliminated the local Monte Carlo team in the quarterfinal round earlier in the day.

- Tom Monahan Smith won Saturday’s 6k Mount Baldy Hill Climb, nearly a minute better than Brent Pfeiffer. Erica Kazin was the top women’s finisher, and third overall. See full results here.
- Pfeiffer bested Smith by less than three seconds in the Copper Harbor Trails 10k Challenge Saturday. Kazin again claimed the women’s crown, finishing fourth overall. See full results here.
- Pfeiffer again prevailed at the Carl Olson Memorial Adventure Run 25k yesterday, finishing 33 seconds ahead of Smith. Kristin Monahan was the top women’s finisher, and fourth overall. See full results here.

At the Miners Revenge Mountain Bike competition at Greenland Saturday…
- Ryan Zinzow of Whitewater, Wisconsin, claimed the Expert Enduro title, with an aggregate time six seconds better than Alexander McTaggert from Alanson, Michigan. Kyia Anderson from Calumet won the Women’s Expert Enduro crown. Curtis Johnson from Petoskey won the men’s title in the Sport Enduro, and Mariah Christenson from Duluth took the women’s crown.
- Zinzow also won the men’s downhill, 1.5 seconds faster than Bodee McFadden from Duluth.
