MLB
The Tigers couldn’t hold an early lead, and fell 8-3 to the Athletics last night. Detroit broke a scoreless tie in the top of the sixth inning, with a Gleyber Torres homer and a two-run Wenceel Pérez double. Oakland got one back in the bottom of the sixth, then piled on five in the seventh, including four on a mammoth two-out grand slam by Shea Langeliers off Tarik Skubal.
The Tigers visit the Athletics again tonight. Charlie Morton will start against Osvaldo Bido. Coverage will begin at 9:40 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Tigers added some roster depth yesterday by signing former Angels utility man Kevin Newman to a minor league deal. Newman had inked a $2.75-million contract with Los Angeles for this season, but was released shortly after the trade deadline.
The Brewers held off the Diamondbacks 7-5 last evening. Milwaukee plated five runs in the third inning, and added another on an Adruw Monasterio solo homer in the fourth. Arizona responded with five runs in the sixth. All were charged to starter Brandon Woodruff, who still earned the win. Caleb Durbin’s solo homer in the eighth added an insurance run.
The Brewers host the Diamondbacks again tonight. Jacob Misiorowski will pitch against Brandon Pfaadt.
Milwaukee has added reliever Grant Anderson to the injured list. He’s suffering from tendinitis in his right ankle. They also sent the well-traveled Chad Patrick back to Nashville, and called back Tobias Myers and Easton McGee.
