In high school football Saturday…
- Lake Linden-Hubbell routed Rapid River 62-14. Josh Daavettila rushed for 228 yards and two touchdowns. Brady Axford ran for 145 yards and one touchdown, and passed for three more.
In high school volleyball Saturday…

- Hancock and Forest Park at The Rock Invitational at Gladstone – no report.
- Lake Linden-Hubbell swept the Baraga Invitational, dropping just one set as they finished 7-0. The Lakes defeated the host Vikings 25-18 in the championship match. For the day, Cleo Milkey had 22 kills and 9 digs. Payton Goldworthy had 51 assists and 7 aces. Ashlyn Steves had 11 assists and 60 digs.
The Houghton boys soccer team lost 8-0 at Sault Ste. Marie Saturday.

College Soccer
The Michigan Tech women’s soccer team fell to Northwood 2-0 Saturday afternoon.
The Northern Michigan women’s soccer team played Cedarville to a 0-0 draw.
College Volleyball
At the UP North Tournament in Minnesota…
The MTU volleyball team swept Adelphi 3-0 (29-27, 25-12, 25-16) Saturday morning. Rachel Zurek and Tricia Kennedy each had 11 kills for the Huskies, and former Calumet High School standout Maddie Torola added eight. Former Kingsford Fliver Maddie Kreider led the team with 20 assists.
The NMU volleyball team dropped a very close 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-23) decision to Minnesota-Duluth on Saturday. Kaylee McIntosh paced the Wildcats with 15 kills.
College Football
The Michigan Tech football team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 34-21 victory at Hillsdale Saturday. Alex Bueno completed 25 of 41 passes for 364 yards and three touchdowns.
The Northern Michigan football squad fell 20-7 to Saint Thomas Saturday, in the first game involving an NCAA Division I school ever played at the Superior Dome. The Wildcats took a 7-6 lead on Jahi Wood’s five-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, byut the Tommied scored twice in the fourth quarter to put the game away. NMU drops to 0-3.
MLB
The Tigers lost to the Marlins 6-4 in 11 innings Saturday. Wenceel Pérez gave Detroit a brief lead when he doubled home Riley Greene in the top of the 11th. Rafael Montero gave up an RBI single in the bottom of the inning, then served up a two-run homer to Troy Johnston, and took the loss. Kerry Carpenter homered for Detroit.
The Tigers visit the Marlins again today. Detroit is planning for a bullpen day. Adam Mazur will start for Miami. Coverage will begin at 1:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
Tests performed on Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal after he was pulled from his most recent start with tightness in his left side have uncovered no damage. Team officials say he’s resumed his regular workout routine in anticipation of making his next start.
The Brewers outslugged the Cardinals 9-8 in 10 innings Saturday. After surrendering a run in the top of the 10th, Milwaukee pulled out the victory in the inning when Caleb Durbin doubled home Blake Perkins, then scored on a single by Andruw Monasterio. The Brewers become the first team in the majors to secure a playoff berth.
The Brewers host the Cardinals again today. Jose Quintana will pitch against Miles Mikolas.

The Lions host the Bears in a 1:00 game today.
