High School
The Ishpeming girls basketball team is headed to East Lansing, after a 60-22 victory over Inland Lakes in their Division Four tournament quarterfinal game last night. The Hematites will face Morenci in a semifinal game at the Breslin Center tomorrow at 5:30. Portland Saint Patrick and Onekama will play in the other semifinal. Ishpeming is the only Upper Peninsula team remaining in the tournament.
College Basketball
The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team will face Gannon University in its upcoming NCAA Division II quarterfinal game. The Huskies are 29-6, and are seeded sixth in the Elite Eight. The Golden Knights are 31-3, and are the third seed. The game will be played on Wednesday at noon at the UPMC Events Center at Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh.
The other quarterfinal pairings feature top-seed Nova Southeastern against eighth-seed Black Hills State… second-seed Cal State East Bay against seventh-seed Oklahoma Baptist… and fourth-seed Daemon against fifth-seed Lander.
Tech and Gannon have met once before – November 24th, 2018, at the Gary Miller Classic in Erie, Pennsylvania. The Huskies won the game 50-43. Brian Heath scored 18 points.
College Hockey
Former Michigan Tech hockey standout Jack Anderson is headed to the pro ranks. Anderson has signed a two-year entry-level NHL contract with the Dallas Stars. An undrafted free agent, he was recently named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Defenseman of the Year. Anderson will report to the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League for the remainder of this season. The contract will begin in the 2026-27 season.
NHL
The Red Wings host the Canadiens tonight. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons play at Washington tonight.
The Bucks visit the Jazz this evening.
MLB
The Tigers collected just five hits in a 3-1 loss to the Pirates in Grapefruit League action last evening. Casey Mize gave up all three runs over four innings.
The Tigers have today off. The regular team will face the Phillies tomorrow. Tarik Skubal will start, with coverage beginning at 1:00 on 99.3 The Lift. Detroit prospects will take on Pirates prospects in the Spring Breakout series tomorrow.
Half of the Brewers lost to the Mariners 7-3 yesterday. Tyler Black drove in all three of Milwaukee’s runs. The other half dropped a 4-3 decision to the Angels. Luis Rengifo and Jake Bauers homered.
The Brewers will take on the Rangers today. Brandon Woodruff will start.
