College Hockey
In quarterfinal play at the NCAA Division I hockey tournament yesterday…
- Michigan State fell to Wisconsin 4-3 in overtime. The Badgers scored two late goals to force the extra period, then netted the game-winner when Ben Dexheimer’s shot from the blue line flipped off the glove of Spartans goalie Trey Augustine and into the goal.
- North Dakota ousted Quinnipiac 5-0.

- Western Michigan faces Denver at 3:00.
- Michigan takes on Minnesota-Duluth at 5:30.
NHL
The Red Wings’ late comeback fell short in a 5-3 loss to the Flyers last evening. All of Detroit’s goals came in the third period, from Mason Appleton, Alex DeBrincat and Lucas Raymond. Playing in his second game in two days, John Gibson stopped 17 shots, and took the loss.
The Wings visit the Penguins Tuesday. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Detroit remains tied with Ottawa, one standings point behind Columbus in the race for the final Eastern Conference wild card playoff berth. The Wings have nine regular-season games remaining.
NBA
The Pistons shut down the Timberwolves 109-87 last evening. Tobias Harris led Detroit with 18 points, and Jalen Duren collected 13 rebounds.
The Pistons visit the Thunder tomorrow.
The Bucks’ swoon continued with a 127-95 loss to the Spurs last night. Gary Trent, Junior scored 18 for Milwaukee. The loss officially eliminated Milwaukee from the playoffs.
The Bucks host the Clippers this afternoon.
MLB
The Tigers suffered their first loss of the season, falling to the Padres 3-0 last night. Colt Kewith had a single and a double – Detroit’s only hits in the game. Tigers batters struck out 13 times. Jack Flaherty pitched into the fifth, was charged with three runs on four hits, and took the loss.
The Tigers have today off, and open a series at Arizona tomorrow night. Justin Verlander will start against Michael Soroka. Coverage will begin at 9:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers stopped the White Sox 6-1 last night. Brice Turang had three hits and scored twice. Chad Patrick pitched into the fifth and gave up a run on four hits.
The Brewers welcome the Sox again this afternoon. Brandon Sproat will pitch against Anthony Kay.
Milwaukee first baseman Andrew Vaughan could miss as much as six weeks. He broke a bone in his hand while batting in the season opener. Jeferson Quero has been called up from the Sounds.
