High School
At the Ontonagon Invitational track meet yesterday…
- Hurley won the boys team title. Dollar Bay-Tamarack City finished third, followed by Ewen-Trout Creek and the Copper Island Academy. Ontonagon was seventh and Chassell eighth. Baron Colbert of the Blue Bolts won the 400 and 800-meter runs, and the high jump. Chassell’s Dade Holmes took the 1600 and 3200-meter runs.
- Ewen-Trout Creek claimed the women’s team crown. Dollar Bay-Tamarack City was a close second, with Ontonagon third, Chassell fifth, and the Copper Country Christian School seventh. Violet Amos of the Gladiators won the 100, 200 and 400-meter sprints. Bree Besonen from Ewen-Trout Creek claimed the 800 and 3200-meter runs. Jordan Holombo from Chassell won both hurdles events. Laila Bell from Dollar Bay-Tamarack City won the pole vault and the long jump.

- Hancock welcomes Westwood.
Lake Linden-Hubbell has named its top senior athletes for the class of 2026.
- Travis Holbrook earned 15 varsity letters in football, basketball, baseball, and track & field. He plans to attend Olivet College and major in sports management and play football.
- Cleo Milkey earned 12 varsity letters in basketball, softball, track & field, and volleyball, all while maintaining a 3.71 GPA. She’s the second-leading basketball scorer in, finishing with 1,582 career points. She plans to attend Bay College to study nursing and continue her basketball career.
NBA
The Knicks stuffed the Cavaliers 109-93 last night. New York leads the Eastern Conference final 2-0.
The Spurs welcome the Thunder tonight. The Western Conference final is tied 1-1.
NHL
The Canadiens opened the Eastern Conference final with a 6-2 win over the Hurricanes last evening.
The Golden Knights visit the Avalanche tonight. Vegas leads the Western Conference final 1-0.
MLB
The Tigers’ collapse continued as they fell 3-1 to the Guardians yesterday. Casey Mize turned in another good start, pitching into the seventh, and allowing two runs on four hits, but he took the loss. Dillon Dingler’s home run in the eighth scored Detroit’s only run.
The Tigers have dropped six straight, and 14 of their last 16. They visit the Orioles tonight. Jack Flaherty will start against Chris Bassitt. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers had yesterday off, and host the Dodgers tonight. Logan Henderson will pitch against Justin Wrobleski.
Biking
Ride the Keweenaw opens the summer biking season in the region, with rides scheduled over the next several days. Today’s schedule includes the guided ride through the Adventure Mine, and family-friendly group rides at the Swedetown Trails. Group rides are scheduled for the Tech Trails tomorrow morning, and Churning Rapids tomorrow afternoon. On Sunday, the Lake Superior Gravity Series begins with the first Enduro of the year in Copper Harbor. Most events are free, but the Enduros do have entry fees. Volleyball
A co-ed summer beach volleyball league will begin play June 3rd at the Hancock Sand Courts. Six-player teams must include three females, and participants must be 16 or older. Matches will be held on Wednesday nights through August 5th. For information and registration, click here.
