The historic Calumet Theatre is searching for volunteers to assist with various operating tasks. As a non-profit organization, the theatre often struggles to find people to perform the jobs necessary to stage shows on a regular basis.
“Typically, we have a bunch of people that come in to take the tickets, get people down to their seats, assist them if they have mobility issues,” said Daniel Jamison, Executive Director of the theatre. “We provide some training as to how to handle various different situations.”
Jamison stated that with recent organizational changes and new projects on the horizon, the theatre is looking for more people to help bring those initiatives to fruition.
The public can also support the Calumet Theatre by becoming a member. Basic membership begins at $35, with options increasing in cost and benefits, such as guided tours and beverage vouchers.
People from all walks of life are encouraged to apply to volunteer or become a member. Those interested can call the Calumet Theatre box office at (906) 337-2610. Box office personnel will organize volunteers, and all instruction will be provided by volunteer coordinators.
The Calumet Theatre still has plenty of great shows and entertainment coming to the community this summer. In August the Tamburitzans make their long awaited return to the stage. The Tamburitzans have stopped in Calumet for an amazing performance of traditional songs and dance for nearly 80 years. After the Tamburitzans get off the stage, LA ABBA performs on August 14th. September includes more concerts to close out a fantastic summer at the theater.
