MLB
The Tigers couldn’t hold an early lead, and lost to the White Sox 7-5 yesterday. Brett Callahan’s two-run triple in his first major league at-bat put Detroit on the board in the second inning. Rookie Max Clark singled him home. Colt Keith homered in the bottom of the third. Drew Anderson allowed three runs over five innings. Tyler Holton relieved him, gave up a run in the sixth, and was charged with two more before leaving in the seventh. He took the loss.
After having been swept by the division-leading Sox over the weekend, Detroit has fallen five-and-a-half games off the pace, and into a tie with the Guardians for second place in the American League Central. The Twins are another half-game back.
The Tigers visit the Pirates tonight. Framber Valdez will start. Coverage will begin at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.
Logan Henderson outdueled Tarik Skubal, as the Brewers downed the Dodgers 6-2 yesterday. Henderson gave up a run on two hits over seven innings to get the win. Skubal allowed two runs on seven hits over six innings and took the loss. Jake Bauers had four hits and drove in two runs.
The Brewers host the Mariners tonight. Kyle Harrison will pitch against Bryce Miller.
Twilight League
Garnet Garage advanced to the Copper Country Twilight Baseball League tournament final with a narrow 9-8 victory over Houghton Building Supplies/Stanton last evening.
Garnet will face Northern Driveline in the opening game of the best-of-three championship series beginning tomorrow.
Biking
At Saturday’s Great Deer Chase bike races at the Swedetown Trails Saturday…
- Joel Bretzlaff from Highland, Michigan won the long race, 25 seconds ahead of Houghton’s Isaac Oldenberg. Megan Broeders from Negaunee took the women’s title.
- Kody Nutting from Kalamazoo claimed the medium race, with a narrow 1.2-second margin over Murphy Mallow of Hancock. Kaytlin Roell from Marquette was the fastest woman.
- Renn Taivalkoski of Calumet earned the crown in the short race. Bradley Schuett from South Range was second, and Becca Subert from Hancock won the women’s title.
