MI-TRALE and Michigan DNR encourage safe trail etiquette while enjoying the region’s natural spaces. On September 15, the Michigan DNR posted a reminder of what trail etiquette requires of trail users to keep everyone safe and the environment pleasant for all riders.
MI-TRALE highlighted five main points from the DNR’s announcement:
Stay on marked trails. Stay aware of other trail users and communicate with groups as you pass. Keep all pets on a six-foot leash and clean up after your pet. Prevent the spread of invasive species throughout Michigan by cleaning debris, mud and dirt from your machine after each adventure. Remember to use a recreation passport on trails connected to the state park system.
These guidelines apply to ORV and snowmobile users as well as non-motorized trail users throughout Michigan.
