Aspirus Keweenaw hospital has earned Level IV trauma facility classification after the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services completed its evaluation of the facility’s emergency response capabilities.
The state agency assessed the hospital’s care processes, documentation, staff training and overall readiness to treat injured trauma patients.
“This achievement is a testament to the hard work, expertise and commitment of the emergency department team,” said Darcy Donnelly, director of nursing at Aspirus Keweenaw.
Level IV classification affirms the hospital’s ability to provide rapid assessment, stabilization and coordination of care when every second matters. The state highlighted the emergency department’s leadership, consistent use of prevention initiatives, community outreach efforts and evidence-based clinical criteria.
Michigan grades trauma facilities on a scale of I to IV, with Level IV representing the most prepared facilities to respond to patients’ needs in delivering timely and appropriate trauma care.
