Bob Nousiainen received the Oreste “Chip” Chiantello Service Award from the Western Upper Peninsula Planning and Development Region and the Western Upper Peninsula Michigan Works Association on Monday evening.
The award is presented annually to a community service member who exemplifies qualities of service, dedication and leadership across the six-county region.
The award was established in 1991 following the death of Oreste Chiantello, a respected public official with 25 years of service who was a member of both WUPPDR and the Western Upper Peninsula Michigan Works Association.
Since 2017, Nousiainen has served on the Ontonagon Board of Commissioners. In that role, he has joined numerous boards providing insight on county operations, including with the Ottawa Forest Plan Revision, Western UP District Health, WUPPDR, the Substance Abuse Agency, UP Energy Workgroup and the 911 committee.
Beyond his public service, Nousiainen volunteers with Our Savior Lutheran Church and the Ewen-Ontonagon-Rockland Masonic Lodge #67.
