The Keweenaw Community Foundation’s Youth Advisory Council will award $50,000 to projects through a new grant program.
The Youth Advisory Council, led by students in the Copper Country committed to making a difference in their communities, provides hands-on experience in nonprofit operations and helps students connect to projects impacting the region.
The Trust for Civic Life awarded the Keweenaw Community Foundation $45,000 to expand the Youth Advisory Council’s impact, with the foundation matching $5,000 for the YAC Community Change Grant program. The program will offer applicants up to $10,000 to match project funds.
The grant program seeks to award funds to projects that create meaningful impact and build community connections according to a news release from the foundation.
Youth throughout the Keweenaw Peninsula engage with their communities through various avenues, including National Honor Society volunteer hours, scout service projects and numerous student organizations. The Youth Advisory Council provides another pathway for young people to make a difference in the Copper Country.
Since its establishment, the Youth Advisory Council has awarded nearly $375,000 to projects and programs impacting youth in the Keweenaw Peninsula.
The grant program will accept applications until November 1st.
