Three of the four best-of-three Wild Card playoff series were decided yesterday.
In the American League…
- The White Sox defeated the Astros 7-3. Chicago wins the series 2-0.
- The Yankees buried the Red Sox 9-2. New York sweeps that set 2-0.
In the National League…
- The Phillies shaded the Braves 4-3 in 10 innings. That series will be decided this afternoon at 2:00 in Atlanta.

NFL
In tonight’s NFL contest, the Steelers visit the Browns.
The Packers have confirmed that they will finish the season without receiver Jayden Reed. He will undergo surgery to repair the neck injury he suffered during their week two game against the Jets. The injury is not believed to be career-threatening.
NBA
The Pistons have reportedly modified the contract offer on the table for center Jalen Duren. The money remains at $200 million guaranteed over five years, but a playing weight contingency that Duren’s camp found offensive has apparently been removed. As a restricted free agent, Duren is eligible for an NBA max salary of $287 million. He has until midnight tonight to accept an offer from the team. If he doesn’t, he plays for Detroit for $9.6 million this season, and can become an unrestricted free agent next spring.
