The City of Houghton’s annual Treat Street Halloween event has been announced as taking place Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026. Because snowfall often arrives early in the Copper Country, many children lose out on the opportunity to trick-or-treat on the day of Halloween; Houghton’s Treat Street is an event where Shelden Avenue is closed to automobile traffic and youngsters from all around visit the participating local businesses to get their trick-or-treating in early.
Treat Street will last from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., instead of the previous 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in order to lessen the effect the closure has on rush-hour traffic. Northbound motor vehicles on US-41 will be re-routed on Montezuma Avenue for the two hours.
Families are asked to not start trick-or-treating until 6 p.m. so as to allow the business owners time to prepare for the children. In addition, the City asks people to not line up outside City Center, as there will not be a haunted house this year.
