NBA
In NBA Eastern Conference quarterfinals last evening…
- A late Pistons comeback fell just short in a 118-116 loss to the Knicks. Detroit trailed by 10 at the end of the third quarter. Jalen Brunson sank a couple of late free throws to ice the win. There were a couple of controversial officiating issues in the closing seconds. Detroit coach J.B. Bickerstaff thought an over-and-back violation should have been called, which would have given them possession with about six seconds remaining and the score tied. Brunson’s final free throw attempt came with a half-second on the clock. He missed intentionally, so time would expire while Detroit chased the ball. But, the end-of-game buzzer sounded prematurely. The Pistons were given a throw-in with a half-second remaining, but were unable to launch a shot. New York leads the series 2-1. Game three will be played in Detroit Sunday afternoon. Coverage will begin at 12:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL
To the surprise of no one, the Titans chose Miami quarterback Cam Ward with the first pick in the opening round of the NFL Draft last evening. The Jaguars traded up to get the second pick, and took Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter, who says he’d like to continue to play both cornerback and receiver in the NFL.
The Bears used the 10th pick on University of Michigan tight end Colston Loveland.
The Packers gave Jordan Love a new target by drafting Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden with the 23rd pick. Golden is one of the fastest players in this year’s class.
The Vikings claimed 6’4″, 315-pound Ohio State offensive lineman Matthew Golden with the 24th selection.
The Lions also added some beef, using the 28th pick on 6’3″, 334-pound Ohio State defensive lineman Tyleik Williams. Most draft evaluators had projected Williams as a mid-second round pick.
Rounds two and three will take place tonight. Both the Lions and Packers have a pick in each round.
The draft will wrap up tomorrow.
