Early on in an infant’s life their connection with mom is very important. Next week the Community Breastfeeding Collaborative will start to address challenges related to breastfeeding by listening to the community. During two listening sessions, the Collaborative aims to strengthen local support for families based on direct feedback from people with lived experiences.
The collaborative encourages not just parents to attend the session but also caregivers, healthcare professionals, and community advocates. During the two hours, participants will share their personal experiences with breastfeeding and infant care and nutrition. As well as provide examples of barriers and opportunities to improve Copper County’s resources and support for families choosing to breastfeed their babies.
The first session on May 3rd will begin at 9:30 am at the Keweenaw Community Foundation office inside the Hancock Community Hub. The listening session on the 10th will start at 10 am in Baraga.
The Community Breastfeeding Collaborative working in the western Upper Peninsula has been created by several community groups working to improve family health and outcomes, such as BHK Child Development, Copper Country Great Start Collaborative, Copper Country ISD, Copper Shores Community Health Foundation, Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Health Systems, Keweenaw Community Foundation, Upper Great Lakes Family Health Center, UP Health System – Portage, and the Western UP Health Department.
The event is free to attend and light refreshment will be provided.
