In high school volleyball yesterday…
- Hancock outlasted Lake Linden-Hubbell 3-1 (25-17, 25-15, 24-26, 25-22).
- Forest Park dispatched Norway 3-0 (25-17, 25-8, 25-15).

College Volleyball
The Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech volleyball teams are predicted to finish in the middle of the GLIAC pack this season. The Wildcats came in fourth in the coaches’ preseason poll, with Huskies one vote behind them in fifth place. Grand Valley was picked to win the title, with Ferris State a strong second. Lake Superior State was projected to finish 10th.
MLB
Will Vest walked in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th, as the Tigers fell to the Athletics 7-6 last night. Detroit had taken a 6-5 lead in the top of the 10th on a Zach McKinstry single, but Vest gave up a hit and three walks in the bottom of the inning. Riley Greene and Colt Keith homered for Detroit.
The Tigers have dropped three straight, and visit the Athletics again tonight. Casey Mize will start against Luis Morales. Coverage will begin at 9:40 on 99.3 The Lift.
Center fielder Parker Meadows will begin a rehab assignment at Toledo tonight. He’s recovering from a quad strain. Starter Alex Cobb’s return has been derailed by continuing hip soreness – he was scratched from his latest rehab start. At Toledo, reliever Brant Hurter has been placed on the Triple-A injured list with a sore back.
Brandon Lockridge scored on Isaac Collins’ sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth to give the Brewers a 9-8 win over the Diamondbacks. William Contreras and Brice Turang homered as Milwaukee built an early lead. Arizona scored five runs off Tobias Myers and Jared Koenig in the seventh and eighth to tie the contest.
The Brewers host the Diamondbacks again tonight. Quinn Priester will pitch against Ryne Nelson.
NFL
The Lions trimmed their roster to 53 yesterday. As expected, the cuts included veteran offensive lineman Dan Skipper, and backup quarterback candidate Hendon Hooker.
