Hats serve as tools, fashion statements and sometimes status symbols. Next week, the Copper Country’s Friends of Fashion will unveil a new show exploring this rich history.
“Which Hat Shall I Wear Today” will jump from one era to another on May 17, exploring the types of hats people in the Keweenaw Peninsula wore to work, church, weddings or for everyday activities.
The Friends of Fashion explores history through the garments people wear and wore throughout the Copper Country’s history. The show will include a special tribute to Copper Country mothers and the women who make differences in our lives.
The Friends of Fashion operates from the Chassell Heritage Center, where the group displays different garments people used while skiing or playing hockey, celebrating weddings or honoring loved ones. Many pieces have been donated throughout the years from individuals in the region.
The show begins at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at the Old Finlandia Chapel, located at 215 Fifth Street in Hancock.
