Marquette County is getting another traffic circle.
The Michigan Department of Transportation plans to install a roundabout at the intersection of highway M-553 and County Road 480. County Road 480 is the southern shortcut many drivers use to bypass the city. M-553 connects Marquette to Sawyer Regional Airport.
MDOT officials say congestion has increased at the intersection, and the roundabout should help traffic move more smoothly.
The estimated cost of the project is $2.8 million, which will be split between MDOT and Marquette County.
Construction is set to begin in 2029.
