MLB
The Tigers clobbered the Yankees 9-3 last night. Tarik Skubal gave up just one hit – a first-inning solo home run – and struck out nine over six innings. Detroit batters ambushed Yankee starter Cam Schlittler with first-inning home runs by Kery Carpenter, Riley Greene and Spencer Torkelson. Greene homered again in the third inning, and James Outman added a three-run shot in the sixth.
The Tigers visit the Yankees again this afternoon. Troy Melton will start against Will Warren. Coverage will begin at 1:10 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers blasted the Reds 7-2 last evening. Jake Bauers had three hits, including a home run. Jackson Chourio also homered. Brandon Sproat pitched into the sixth, was charged with both Cincinnati runs, and struck out seven.
The Brewers welcome the Reds again tonight. Shane Drohan will pitch against Andrew Abbott.
Milwaukee has assigned starter Robert Gasser to their Arizona Rookie League team. The unusual move will allow him to work out with the Brewers during their upcoming visit to the Diamondbacks, and return for the team’s doubleheader against the Cardinals on Tuesday. In the meantime, Milwaukee has called up Garrett Stallings, who will make his big-league debut after eight years in the minors.
MTU
Tech hockey has formally introduced eight players who will join the team this fall.
- Lucas Brenton is a defenseman from Winnipeg, who is transferring in from the University of Manitoba;
- Giovanni Morneau is a forward from Ottawa, and is transferring in from Lindenwood University;
- Conner Roulette is a forward from Winnipeg, who is transferring in from the University of Saskatchewan;
- Luke Shipley is a defenseman from Powell River, British Columbia, and is transferring in from Massachusetts-Lowell;
- Morgan Brady is a defenseman from Woking, Alberta, and is coming in from the USHL Green Bay Gamblers;
- Joey Costanzo is a goaltender from Toronto, who is arriving from the USHL Windsor Spitfires;
- Tristan Delisle is a forward from Cornwall, Ontario, who is coming in from Owen Sound in the OHL;
- Austin Moline is a defenseman from Las Vegas, and is coming in from the USHL’s Madison Capitols.
Former Houghton High School distance running standout Tessa Rautiola will join the Michigan Tech cross country and track program. She’s a two-time U.P. Division One cross country individual champion. She’ll be joined by runners Rorik Holmquist from Marquette; Abagail Baumann from Poplar Grove, Illinois; Matthew Carbajo from Grosse Ile, Michigan; Lidia Clancy from Macomb, Michigan; Adrian Clarke from Plymouth, Michigan; David DiGiallonardo from Polson, Montana; Clay Elmore from Madison, Wisconsin; Olive Halvorson from River Falls, Wisconsin; Raymond Herek from Williamston, Michigan; Ignatius Lipani from Arlington Heights, Illinois; Rebekah Stachura from Otsego, Michigan; and Lucy VanHaerents from Royal Oak, Michigan.

Forward Ousmane Dieng will stay with the Bucks. Milwaukee did not extend a qualifying offer to him at the end of the season, but now has agreed on a three-year, $17.5 million contract, with the third year being a team option.
