Ahead of the August 4th, 2026 primary Copper Country Today host Todd Van Dyke met with Senate 38 District republican candidates Beau LaFave and Dave Prestin to hear more about what each hopes to accomplish in Lansing. The 38th senate district is currently represented by Senator Ed McBroom, who is term limited. The seat will see Prestin or LaFave up against democrat Kelli VanGinhoven and independent Sara Cambensy. Ginhoven is a county commissioner in Delta County serving District Four. Cambensy formerly represented the 109th Michigan house district from 2017 to 2023.
