MLB
The Tigers opened their weekend series against the division-leading White Sox with a 9-5 loss last evening. Detroit led briefly thanks to a two-run Ben Malgeri homer in the second. Malgeri added a second homer late in the game, but by then Chicago had taken control by scoring five runs in the fourth inning, chasing Tigers’ starter Jackson Jobe.
The Tigers host the White Sox again today. Troy Melton will start against Anthony Kay. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
The loss dropped the Tigers three-and-a-half games behind the Sox in the race for the Central Division title. The Twins and Guardians also lost, and remain just behind Detroit. The Tigers hold a half-game lead in the race for the final American League Wild Card playoff berth.
Former Detroit catcher Jake Rogers is back in the Motor City, but not with the Tigers. Rogers was traded to the Orioles after Detroit designated him for release two weeks ago. He played just three games before being traded to the Red Sox, where he also played just three games before he was designated for assignment again a few days ago. He’s now been claimed by the White Sox, and could be in the lineup against his former teammates today.
The Brewers dropped a 3-1 decision to the Dodgers last night. Milwaukee was held to just five hits. Robert Gasser pitched into the seventh, gave up all three L.A. runs, and took the loss.
The Brewers visit the Dodgers again tonight. Jacob Misiorowski will pitch against Justin Wrobleski.
Milwaukee has added reliever Abner Uribe to the injured list with a flexor strain in his pitching arm. Grant Anderson has been brought up from Nashville.
