While many machines help visitors traverse the Keweenaw Peninsula, many people in the region still choose to travel under the power of a single horse.
While many trails in the western Upper Peninsula offer motorized recreation, there are many trails offering beauty and unique experiences with non-motorized recreation.
Recently, Mi-TRALE hosted the group’s annual Equine Camp and Ride. The campout was organized in partnership with the Upper Peninsula Trail Horse Association’s Mitten Challenge, encouraging participants to take a selfie on the trail for a collection of images from the program.
This year’s Camp and Ride enjoyed nine horses and riders for the weekend, with another six joining the campout for a potluck dinner.
Mi-TRALE Equine Director Cathy Wainio said it was a great time together at the 2026 Mi-TRALE Camp and Ride.
“The organization looks forward to seeing the community next year,” Wainio said.
