Professor Emeritus Larry Lankton is returning to campus to share his latest work exploring Michigan’s automotive legacy and its cultural impact on a generation.
“Motor City Boomer: The Car Culture That Defined a Generation” is part memoir, part cultural history. The book transports readers to an era when Detroit’s steel automobiles symbolized freedom, adventure, independence, and possibility for baby boomers just beginning to drive.
The classic car era between the 1940s and 1970s produced iconic designs that captured American manufacturing pride. From Ford’s Mustang, which redefined Detroit muscle for decades, to the family station wagon packed for cross-country road trips, these vehicles shaped a generation’s dreams and experiences.
Lankton will host a storytelling and book signing event Sept. 24 at 3:30 p.m. at the Van Pelt and Opie Library. The event offers readers an opportunity to hear directly from the author about the vehicles and memories that defined an era.
