In volleyball last night…
- Houghton fell to Negaunee 3-0 (21-25 ,24-26, 22-25 ). For the Gremlins, Lydia Williams had 16 kills, 9 digs, 2 blocks and 1 ace; Alyssa Northey had 23 digs, 2 aces and 28 assists; and Katia Rudak had 24 digs and 2 aces.
- Calumet got past Forest Park 3-1 (16-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-10). The Trojans are rated fourth in the state in Division Four.
- Lake Linden-Hubbell smothered Wakefield-Marenisco 3-0 (25-2, 25-16, 25-22). Payton Goldsworthy reeled off a 23-point service run in the opening set, including six aces. The Lakes cycled in many of their bench players through the second and third set. Hear the game replay here.
- Ontonagon fell to Ironwood 3-1 (25-18, 25-15, 22-25, 16-25).

At the Blue Bolt-Panther Invitational cross country meet yesterday…
- Houghton won the boys team crown, with Jeffers second. Brandon Van Karsen and Tyler Rule of the Gremlins took the top two individual positions.
- L’Anse claimed the girls’ title, followed by Houghton, Jeffers, Ewen-Trout Creek and Calumet. The Gremlins’ Holly Cooke medaled, and Bree Besonen from Ewen-Trout Creek took second place.

MLB
The Tigers dropped a 3-1 decision to the White Sox last night. Munetaka Murakami’s three-run homer off Framber Valdez in the first inning provided all the Chicago scoring. Valdez pitched through the fifth, striking out eight. Max Clark scored Detroit’s only run on a fielder’s choice in the third inning.
The Tigers visit the White Sox again tonight. Andrew Sears will start against David Sandlin. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
Reliever Kyle Finnegan is done for the season. The Tigers added him to the injured list yesterday because of a groin injury. Ty Madden has been recalled from Toledo.
The Brewers fell to the Pirates 7-4 yesterday afternoon. Milwaukee starter Kyle Harrison was chased in the second inning as Pittsburgh scored five times. Bo Naylor homered.
The Brewers visit the Orioles tonight. Dustin May will start for Milwaukee.
The Brewers designated reliever Rob Zastryzny for assignment yesterday.
NFL
The Bills built a big early lead, then held off the Lions 41-31 last evening. Detroit trailed 27-10 at halftime. Jared Goff threw four touchdown passes for Detroit. Josh Allen tossed five for Buffalo, as they won the first regular-season game in their new stadium.
The Packers visit the Giants for a 1:00 game Sunday.
