High School
In high school football last night…
- Calumet stopped Houghton 34-14.
- Hancock fell to Kingsford 35-6.
- Lake Linden-Hubbell routed Rapid River 58-16 to remain unbeaten. The Lakes scored on every possession except the final one. They struck early, with touchdowns on three of their first four plays from scrimmage, including a 47-yard Brady Axford run, a 41-yard Blake Lebo run, and a 57-yard Brady to Josh Daavettila pass. A 12-yard Brady scoring jaunt and a 59-yard Lebo scoring run inflated the halftime lead to 38-8. They opened the second half with a 52-yard Brady TD run, then recovered an onside kick, and Lebo hit Tyler Axford with a 45-yard scoring strike. Tobin Baril closed out the scoring with a 54-yard run in the fourth quarter. Baril also contributed four two-point conversions. Brady led the potent Lake Linden rushing attack with 143 yards on nine carries. Lebo added 117 yards, and Baril 97 yards.

- Ontonagon shaded Ishpeming 26-22.

In volleyball last night…
Dollar Bay-Tamarack City defeated Chassell 3-1 (25-15, 22-25, 26-24, 25-17). For the Blue Bolts, Ave Nye led all hitters with 11 kills. Sylvie Kentala had 29 assists. Kiya Kemppainen had 29 digs and 20 service points, including seven aces. For the Panthers, For Chassell, Elli Kuntze had 16 kills, 2 aces, and 11 digs. Oriana Olson had 9 kills, 1 block, and 2 aces. Skye Isaacson had 4 kills,2 aces and 15 digs. Hilde Kuntze had 6 kills, 1 block, 4 aces and 11 digs. Sylvia Aho had 34 assists.
On today’s volleyball schedule…

College Hockey
The Michigan Tech hockey season-opener against Minnesota fell victim to slushy ice at the SDC. With skating conditions deemed unsafe, the weekend schedule was revised. Today’s game is moved up to a 4:07 faceoff. All Saturday tickets will be honored. Last night’s game will be made up tomorrow at 3:07. All Friday tickets will be honored tomorrow. Ticket holders who cannot attend the game may request a refund through the MTU ticket office.
The NMU hockey squad began its 50th season with a 3-0 victory over Miami of Ohio last night. Oliver Auyeung-Ashton made 30 saves to collect his second career shutout. The Wildcats host the Redhawks again tonight at 6:07.
College Volleyball
The Michigan Tech volleyball team swept Lake Superior State 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-20) yesterday. Jacqueline Yancy led the Huskies with 11 kills. Madelynn Kreider had 28 assists and 15 digs. Tech will host Purdue Northwest today at noon.
The NMU volleyball squad downed Parkside 3-1 yesterday, and will play at Lake Superior State today at 4:00.
College Football
The Michigan Tech football team plays at Roosevelt University today at 1:00.
The Northern football team hosts top-ranked Ferris State today at 1:00.
College Soccer
The Michigan Tech women’s soccer team hosts Northern Michigan tomorrow at noon.
The NMU men’s team blanked Purdue Northwest 2-0 yesterday, and plays at Parkside tomorrow at noon.

The Red Wings opened their season with a 2-0 loss to the Rangers last evening. John Gibson made 19 saves. After requesting a trade over the summer, former team captain Dylan Larkin was booed loudly by fans during the team introductions. He did not suit up – the club has placed him on injured reserve.
